Examples of sustainability here at Carlisle Racecourse
Recycling
We do recycle as much as possible by recycling all cardboard used on site. We are now also going to recycle other dry material including tin cans, plastic cups, wrap and bottles from our site.
Local Suppliers
To cut down on carbon miles and support our local economy we use as many local suppliers as possible. For example all of our meat used for our conference and events buffets and also our raceday restaurant is supplied by Cranstons, a local butcher.
We are currently looking to change our fish and cheese supplier to a local firm.
We even grow our own mint for the Ladies Night Pimms!!!
Green Shop
All the items sold in our Bell Bakery are either;
Locally produced (Cranstons Meat Pies)
Carbon neutral (bottled water)
Free from artificial colours and preservatives (crisps)
Fair-trade products (chocolate bars and chocolate muffins),
Biodegradable and recyclable (soft drink bottles and packaging)
Fair Trade
All tea, coffee and sugar used here at the racecourse is all fair trade products.
Local Recruitment
We are committed to not using agencies to recruit our staff, instead we offer opportunities to local people. We believe it is important for our venue to support the local community.
